Information About Technology PART - 3 (Wi-Fi and Internet)

Hi there, Welcome to another part of Information About Technology PART - 3. In the previous article we have seen some information about INTERNET. In this article we will see about more on Internet and Network related terms.   

Wi-Fi : Wi-Fi stands are for Wireless Fidelity. It is wireless network which connects many devices like : Smartphones, Laptops, PC, Tablets etc. with a single network to access Internet with High Speed. Wi-Fi uses Radio Waves to send Data or Resources between your device and Router. It uses two Radio Waves frequencies to transmit Data. It depends on the amount of Data Usage of or amount of Data to being sent. The two Radio waves are 2.4 Gigahertz and 5 Gigahertz. The current version of Wi-Fi is Wi-Fi 6 .

Hotspot : Hotspot is a location which provide Internet to the users using Wi-Fi i.e. Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). Now devices like Smartphones, Laptops, Tablets have a option to share a personal Hotspot. 

Router : Router is a device which is connected to an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to provide Internet using Radio Waves. It has Antennas which release Radio Waves to the whole area, covering about 50 - 60 meters of area. Routers generally have 2 - 4 antennas or some routers don't have antennas.           

Wi-Fi Router

There are 5 types of Routers : 

1. Wireless Routers 

2. Wired Routers

3. Edge Routers 

4. VPN Routers

5. Core Routers 

Wireless Router : It is a Router which uses Radio Waves to transmit Data and Information. It is a mostly used Router. 

Wired Router : It is mostly used in small institutions and home to have a separate WI-FI access point or location. 

Edge Router : These routers are specialized routers present at Network Boundary which helps to connect Internal Networks with Outer Networks.

VPN Router : These routers automatically connects with several VPN Servers, ∴ it protects your whole Network. 

Core Router : This router is Backbone of Internet or Core of the Internet. This router links all the network devices or routers with Internet. 

ISP (Internet Service Provider) : ISP stands for Internet Service Providers. They provide you High Speed Internet Connection for Personal Use or Business Purpose.

Broadband : It is the transmission of wide or large amount of Bandwidth over High Speed of Internet. Earlier Broadband Connection was done by Copper Cables which not have a high speed of Internet, but now currently Fiber Cables are used for High Speed Internet Transmission. 

Optical Fiber Cables

Broadband Companies and Internet Service Providers (ISP) use Fiber Cables for High Speed Transmission. These wires can carry or transmit High amount of Data at very High Speed of Internet.

Speed Of Internet : The speed of Internet is measured in MBPS or GBPS . 

MBPS : MBPS stands for Megabits Per Second. It is unit in which Internet Speed is measured, ∴  Quantity of Megabits of Data that can be sent in a second.

GBPS: GBPS stands for Gigabits Per Second. It is also a unit to measure Internet Speed in Gigabits, ∴ Quantity of Gigabits of Data that can be sent in a second. 

1 GB = 1024 MB

1 MB = 1024 KB etc. 

GBPS is Very High speed of Internet, therefore if you have 1 GBPS of Internet speed, then you will have speed of 1000 MBPS, which is a very high speed. And if you have speed of 100 MBPS of Internet speed, then you will have a speed of more than 1,00,000 KBPS (Kilobits Per Second).

: A minimum broadband speed should be of 25 MBPS of (Download Speed) 3 MBPS of (Upload Speed).
