Hi there, Welcome to the series of TRENDING TECHZ (EXTNEDED REALITY) XR PART - #2. In this series of articles we will know about current trending technologies and ideas. Some facts related it and information.
In this part we will see about :
XR (Extended Reality) Technology,
VR (Virtual Reality),
AR (Augmented Reality),
MR (Mixed Reality),
CV (Computer Vision) Technology,
Metaverse. and some facts and information about these topics.
Firstly we will see about XR (Extended Reality) Technology.
Extended Reality : This term is a in Computer Technology which refers to the real-virtual (combined) world or environment made by Computer Technology and some wearable components like : VR Headset and Controllers etc.
Examples of Extended Reality : For Gaming, Surgical Planning in Healthcare Sector, Virtual Education/Edtech Sector.
Now we will see about Types of Extended Reality.
There are 3 types of Extended Reality :
1. VR (Virtual Reality)
2. AR (Augmented Reality)
3. MR (Mixed Reality)
1. VR (Virtual Reality)
VR Technology is a technology in which graphics and computer generated images or videos are used to make an Virtual Environment that appears to be real, giving the experience of reality to the users. VR has a complete set of devices such as : VR Headset, VR Controllers.
Examples and Uses of VR Technology : Used in Gaming, Used in Educational Sector, Used in 3D Films and Animation etc.
Types of VR :
1. Non-Immersive VR
2. Fully Immersive VR
3. Semi-Immersive VR
4. Augmented Reality
5. Collaborative VR
1. Non-Immersive VR : It is a type of virtual reality in which you connect with the virtual environment using a computer technology and can control some activity with the experience of it. That is why it is named as Non-Immersive Virtual Reality in which you can interact with the environment with some experience of it but environment will not interact with you. It can be also said to be the partial use of VR Technology.
Example : A Computer Game (DOTA 2) etc.
2. Fully Immersive VR : It is a type of virtual reality in which Artificial Environment is created that replaces or remove the users real world environment that is enough to build a believe that the environment created artificially by computer graphics is real. Simply, the it engages user with the environment.
Example : Computer Games like "Epic Roller Coasters", "Down The Rabbit Hole" etc.
3. Semi Immersive VR : It is the middle part between Non Immersive VR and Fully Immersive VR in which using VR Headsets you can interact with the Virtual Environment with no physical interaction of your body.
Example : Fight Simulator (A Mobile Game) etc.
4. Augmented Reality : In brief this technology converts the real time environment into the computer generated virtual environment.
Example : Pokemon Go (A Mobile Game), Google's Pixel Stars Stickers etc.
5. Collaborative VR : This type of VR technology give user a Virtual Reality Environment from Remote or Busy Locations.
Example : Virtual Meeting for any Project and its Virtual Presentations. etc.
AR (AUGMENTED REALITY)
This technology was invented by Evan Sutherland in the year of 1968. He is also known as Father of Computer Graphics. AR is a type of reality in which Computer Generated Graphics are used to replace the real time world environment to create a real time virtual environment. Objects that are present in the real time environment are replaced by computer generated objects, gives user the best experience of the movie, game or any software made with AR Technology.
Examples : Pokemon Go (A mobile game), IKEA Mobile App, Disney Coloring Book etc. are the examples of the games, software made with AR Technology.
Basic Elements of AR Technology :
1. Combining Real and Virtual World for best experience
2, Interaction made by user in Real Time Environment
3. Correct 3D identification of objects of real and virtual environment
MR (Mixed Reality)
This technology was firstly introduced by Paul Milgram and Fumio Kishino in the year 1994. In this technology we mix the real world with the computer generated virtual world to create a new world or environment and visuals where objects form the real world exists and user can interact with the objects like in the real world.
Example : Virtual Makeup, Snapchat Filters, Sports training and Visualisations etc.
CV (Computer Vision) Technology
It is a field of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in which computer are made capable to name or understanding the digital and virtual images or videos etc. This technology is in progress and being more efficient and developed to make it easy for AI and other Software to use it.
Simply giving an Artificial Computer Generated Software to machines (Robots And Computers) to understand the objects in the real world and virtual world.
Types of CV (Computer Visions)
- Face Recognition (Used in Mobile Locks)
- Object Detection
- Edge Detection
- Pattern Detection
- Image Segmentation
- Image Classification
- Feature Matching
Metaverse Technology
It is a type of Technology in which a world is created with computer technology which has a immersive virtual environment which is created with the help of Computer Graphics and VR and AR Headsets.
In short, It is 3D virtual world created with the help of computer graphics and AR, VR Equipements. There are Avatars of Humans in this Virtual World of Metaverse. It has a 3 types of Metaverse Blockchain Technology, we will know about them in Blockchain Technology Article.
Example : Games like : Roblox, Pokemon Go, Horizon etc. ; to meet human avatars of someone Social Belonging who are not in this real world.
