What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services—including servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence—over the Internet (“the cloud”) to offer faster innovation, flexible resources, and economies of scale.

Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

Types of cloud computing:

There are three main types of cloud computing:

1. Public 

2. Private

3. Hybrid.

1. Public cloud: Public clouds are owned and operated by a third-party cloud service provider, which delivers its computing resources, such as servers and storage, over the Internet.

2. Private cloud: Private clouds are owned and operated by a single organization. They may be managed by the organization itself or by a third-party cloud service provider.

Hybrid cloud: Hybrid clouds are a combination of public and private clouds, with data and applications flowing between the two.

3. Cloud services: Cloud services are applications and platforms that are available to users over the Internet. They are delivered through the cloud, and users can access them with a web browser or a mobile app.

Some common cloud services include email, file storage and sharing, video conferencing, and social networking.

About cloud storage:

Cloud storage is a model of data storage in which the digital data is stored in logical pools, called cloud storage pools. The physical storage spans multiple servers (possibly in multiple locations), and the physical storage capacity can be scaled up or down as needed.

Cloud storage is usually sold as a service, where the provider delivers a storage platform that the customer can use to store their data. Cloud storage can be used for anything from backing up data to storing large files.

Cloud computing enables organizations to consume a compute resource, such as a virtual machine, database, or storage, as a utility (like electricity) over the Internet. Organizations no longer have to purchase, manage, and maintain IT infrastructure and resources in-house. This allows them to focus on their core business functions and reduces their total cost of ownership (TCO).
